Diane MacEachern, Founder; Big Green Purse

Diane MacEachern, Best-selling author and Founder of Big Green Purse

Diane MacEachern, the founder and president of Big Green Purse and The World Women Want, LLC, is passionate about using the marketplace to protect the planet. A best-selling author and award-winning entrepreneur, Diane launched the only company in the U.S. focused specifically on harnessing women’s enormous consumer clout for the benefit of the environment.

Save Our Planet: 750 Everyday Ways You Can Help Clean Up the Earth, which was featured on national television programs ranging from “Live with Regis and Kathie Lee” to “The ABC Network Television Earth Day Special,” is one of the best-selling environmental consumer books ever published.

Her website, BigGreenPurse.com, encourages women to green the marketplace by choosing products whose use or manufacture offers the greatest environmental gains. Her books, articles and speeches motivate women to take actions that will make a difference while encouraging companies to accelerate their transition to a green economy.

She helps environmental organizations engage more women as members, activists, and donors while encouraging companies to meet certified environmental standards to reduce "greenwashing" and gain green consumer confidence. Her "One in a Million" Campaign is encouraging a million consumers to shift their spending to certified environmentally-beneficial products.

Diane has worked with companies like Home Depot's EcoOptions program and Whole Foods, the earth-friendly market that this year will start using Diane's eco tips in its shopping aisles. Her books have reached hundreds of thousands of people in the U.S. and abroad. Big Green Purse: Use Your Spending Power to Create a Cleaner, Greener World, is being called "The Big Green Bible" for the guidance it offers to consumers interested in making lifestyle and shopping choices that will protect them and their environment.

Diane speaks regularly to a wide variety of audiences, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Harvard University, American Bankers Association, Toyota Women's Conference and the Texas Conference for Women.

Diane's thirty years' environmental experience began with the Master’s Degree she earned from the School of Natural Resources and Environment at the University of Michigan. She lives in the Washington, DC metropolitan area in the energy-efficient home she helped design and build more than twenty years ago (and on which she just completed an eco-renovation). She has raised her two children on organic food and an ongoing diet of the "3 R's": reduce, reuse, recycle!
